Products
Assets that are available in your marketplace
Products are the main entities in your marketplace, the end goal. Here we will describe everything you need to know to set up products.
Merchant
Products must have a merchant. You don’t have to show the merchant in the layout, but a product must be associated with a merchant. Your company can also be the merchant. This is very common for companies to publish products of your own.
Product type
Every product must be of a specific product type, and only one. You can have one product type for all assets, or you can have multiple product types for different asset types.
The product type determines the properties of the product, the page layout, and the card layout. You can read more about product types here.
Revisions
Once a product is created and published, editing it is by using the Revisions
feature. You or the owning merchant can submit changes to the product. These changes are tracked and can be approved or rejected. Once approved the product reflects the changes.
You can unpublish a product by archiving it. This will remove it from the store, but it will still be available for people who have purchased it.
Paid products
By default all products are free. If you enable the paid apps feature, merchants can charge for products. Read more about it here.
Variants
Some products can have multiple variants. For instance, a product that have multiple tiers can either be represented with multiple products or as one product with multiple variants. Users will then need to select the variant they want to purchase.
Versions
Some products can have multiple versions. For instance an App can release updates as new versions. SideDish supports versioning system. Once enabled, merchants can submit new versions of their product to the store. New versions are treated the same as revisions.
Users who purchased a version can then upgrade to the latest version. We support free updates as well as limiting updates, either by specific version or by major version. Merchants can decide between the options in their product settings.
